Having a good reliable miter saw for site work, or even DIY work at home is a must. There are a number of miter saws from the different manufacturers that do fall into this category, and the one we are going to look at in this article is the Bosch 5312 12 inch compound miter saw.
It seems that Bosch has thought of most things that the consumer will need in a good quality miter saw for site work, and put them all into the 5312. There are so many useful little features and components to this saw, and it cuts really well to on top of that.
Video overview of the Bosch 5312
If you are looking to get the Bosch 5312 for site work then you will be looking for a degree of portability. Fortunately the 5312 is very easy to carry around, as it has a handle built into the frame of the saw that makes it really easy to pick up and move around as required.
The 5312 is a very stable saw too. It has a really large 25.5 inch base, and the cast sliding extensions will increase that to 40 inches when they are fully extended. This will allow you to work on larger applications without the worry of the saw not be able to take the weight.
Cutting and bevel settings
The Bosch 5312 is a dual bevel miter saw and makes cutting bevels extremely easy. It has a visible bevel and miter scale so you can see the exact angle to set the saw at, and it also has stops and detents at the most common cutting angles for both miters and bevels.
The detents for bevels are at 0, 33.9 and 45 degrees, and this is for the left and right hand side. The miter stops are at 0, 15, 22.5, 31.6 and 45 degrees to both the left and right hand side, and then on the right side it also goes up to 60 degrees.
The motor used on the Bosch 5312 is a 15 amp, which produces a no load speed of 3,800 rpm. When you have this power and speed combined with the 60 teeth carbide tipped 12 inch blade, then you can see why it is able to cut so effectively.
The cuts are really smooth and clean with this saw. And it is very easy to use too, so it will enable you to get through your workload efficiently without losing any quality at all. It also has an electronic brake so you can stop the blade in a matter of seconds, which is always good for safety purposes.
While this saw is easy to move around from place to place, it is also a solid and stable design so you can work on some large applications without any problems. The saw weighs 59 pounds, so it is not the lightest you will find, but the positioning of the handle makes it that much easier to carry.
This saw does come with a dust bag attachment, but we found this not to be very effective and there was quite a lot of dust around the place once the cutting was finished. While this won’t pose much of a problem if you are outside or on a working site, it is not ideal if you are working inside with the saw.
The Bosch 5312 is ideal for cutting a number of applications. Things like framing and molding are easy to cut with the 5312, and it makes clean work of them all. The vertical clamp ensures that your work is held tightly in place as you cut to ensure accuracy.
