Genesis GCD18BK is one of the best cheap cordless drills on the market today. The built-in LED work light allows you to work in dark spaces with poor lighting conditions, and the bubble indicator ensures that you hold the drill straight while you drill, to avoid destroying the screw slots. The chuck (3/8 inch) is keyless and the bit tray is magnetic to ensure you can drill in different positions and angles. Grip-wise the Genesis GCD 18BK 18v Cordless Drill can compete with the big brands (like Dewalt), with its rubberized, non slip, pistol grip. This 18v cordless drill has 16 different torque settings and an electric brake to ensure safety. This drill comes in a solid storage case which includes 1 battery, 1 charger and a 13-pc bit and drill set.
Who is Genesis GCD 18BK for?
Let’s face it. This drill isn’t for the construction worker or the picky handyman. If you need to use your battery drill more than once a week, this machine isn’t for you. If you are one of the above you should probably go for a power tool like Dewalt. But if you need your cordless drill every once in a while for hanging pictures to the wall and other small tasks, this machine is for you. It is stupid to pay $xxx for a drill if you only use it once a year for easy tasks, when you can get the Genesis GCD 18BK. As I said, this isn’t a tool for professionals, as the max speed is only 550 rpm and they use 18v ni-cad batteries which take a while to charge, but I’m sure the money saved is well worth the extra time. What was really surprising for this cheap cordless drill is that it has an in built LED work light and an electric brake.
The price. It is well worth the money if your battery drill is lying in your garage for months and you only use it for screw driving.
It has an inbuilt LED light which switches on once you start drilling. This is perfect if you have to deal with poor lighting conditions.
A really good grip. The rubberized, non slip pistol grip can actually compete with the big power tools from Dewalt.
The electric brake always keep you safe from hurting your (or someone else’s) fingers when you stop drilling, the rotor stops immediately.
Charge indicator. This lower prize drill actually has an indicator on the charger. Many of the big brands don’t even bother to do this.
This isn’t a power drill. With its 550rpm you can’t drill in dense materials such as concrete and masonry. It is mainly for screw driving.
The package only include one battery, so make sure you charge the battery between your projects, The ni-cad battery takes longer time to charge, and have a shorter life than the lithium-ion batteries..
Chuck is only 3/8 inch, not 1/2 inch like Dewalt. You can’t really use big drills on the GCD 18BK anyway because of the power.
